Year 1

Homework Information

Homework

Each week your child will be set homework to support them to consolidate their learning at home. Children should complete these tasks on the paper provided or within their homework books. Children will be awarded Dojo’s and raffle tickets for completing these activities.

Every week children will also bring home:

  • Fred’s Friday Phonics Challenge – to recap sounds learnt in school and to practise applying this sound to spell.
  • Book Bag Book- to practise reading this 3 times to develop their fleuncy and accuracy of word reading.
  • A Book Club book- to enjoy and read for pleasure.

Reading At Home

A reading record can be found in your child’s book bag. It should be completed at least 3 times per week (by an adult) to record your child’s reading at home.

Your child’s book bag book will be changed to reflect the sounds that your child knows and stories your child reads in school. We send book bag books home which directly link to the Read Write Inc stories we have enjoyed together in school.

Other useful books that are recommended for Year 1 children are listed upon our “50 Recommended Reads”. Many of these books are available to loan from our school Library, Airedale Library or will be sent home each week with our Reading Mascot. These texts would be perfect for a bedtime story.

Reading Online

As reading is so important in your child’s early education, we reccomend that all children and parents sign up for a free reading account on Oxford Owl.

The website provides you with access to many online e-books that your child can read for enjoyment at home.

Hey there, couldn’t help noticing you’re using Internet Explorer

That’s great and all, and we commend you for pushing through with it. Unfortunately we no longer offer support for IE; it hasn’t received a major update since 2015 and Microsoft are dropping support for it later in the year.

If you’re using Windows 10 and want to stick with a built in browser, please consider switching to Edge. Or, if you really want to enjoy the internet properly we strongly recommend downloading Google Chrome here.
